HP Officejet Pro 8720
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just over 1 year HP 8720 printer with little use. Gone for month, returned and powered on and lifted lid to scan on flat bed.  Before scanning received "Document feed jam".  No paper in ADF or anywhere then paper drawer.  Tried many of the tricks seen in the community and on Youtube.  Many power off and on cycles, fed paper through manually, blew and scucked any ADF surface I had access to. The message screen gets in way of system reset and saw where someone kept pushing the "ok" button and listening to ADF noise for 7+ times, lifted the lid and even blessed it with a few choice blessings.  Nothing seems to help.  I see where some of the HP staff send secret instructions thru private messages and I am hoping that I may be blessed with a secret message.  I am not anxious to replace a $200 all-in-one when I like it so much.  I went to Staples and was told that there is no one in the area (Hilton Head SC) who can fix it so replace it. PLEASE can someone help me fix this?

Another utterly useless reply from HP.  There are a number of people with the same error, "Document Feeder Jam" error when there is no paper in the feeder, caused by most likely a sensor failure not due to use but as I have been told bu HP, "humidity".  If that is the case good luck selling to most of the world where the humidityis much higher.  The solution is to recycle the printer and buy a new one.  HP offers a small discount from list price but Staples or Amazon will sell it for much less.  Best solution is to not buy HP.

To add insult to injury, when I went to stop my "Instant Ink" subscription because the printer was unusable they will charge me the current month (5 days into new month when failed) ($9.95) and next month ($9.95) before they accually cancel my subscription.  I have to admit that "INstant Ink" is not something I would do again.   I do hope that the "humidity bug" does not attack my other three HP all in one printers.  The 8600 printers I have had for 3+ years without a problem while the 8720 for 16 months dies.   May they rest in peace.....

@KMchief Welcome to HP Community! If you've gone through the steps suggested by the last tech and done everything mentioned in this video: click here to verify, yet the issue persists,

this could be a hardware malfunction with the printer, and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options,

follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
