Hello-

I have an Officejet Pro 9018 that will suddenly not print anymore.  Windows 11.  Connected via Cat 5 cable to my router.  Whenever I try to print anything I get an error message: HP998DCA in error state.  It will scan and send images to my computer.  It just won't print.  I tried all the HP software fixes that you can download to no avail.  I rebooted my computer and the printer several times.  I reinstalled the HP Smart software.  The HP Smart software "sees" the printer, but it won't print.

Troubleshooting advice appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi @ualdriver1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing printing issues with your HP Officejet Pro 9018 all-in-one Printer.

I suggest that you follow the steps listed below to update the firmware from HP Smart App.

1. Go to 123.hp.com (Android, Apple iOS, iPad OS), or HP Smart - Microsoft Store (Windows), or HP Smart - Mac App Store (Mac) (if not installed).

2. After completing the printer setup, click or tap on the printer’s name.

NOTE: Menu names, locations, and available settings vary by printer model.

3. Under Advanced, select Printer Home Page (EWS) or Advanced Settings.

4. Click or tap Tools or Web Services.

5. Click or tap Printer Updates or Product Update, and then click or tap Check Now.

Hello-

Yes, I have done those things.  I know there is a good connection between the computer and the printer because it will scan documents via the HP Smart app between my computer and the printer.

There is no printer queue.  It's empty.  I delete the jobs when they fail.

I installed the latest drivers via the HP Smart software, and even uninstalled and reinstalled everything.

The only error showing is the "used cartridges detected."  But it's printed like that for a couple years now with no problems and the green checkmark is still there for the printer.

Another data point is that when I go to print a document and select "HP998DCA" from the printer selection drop down menu, the document "locks up" for about 60 seconds when the selection is made.
