Hi @abblach,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code 0x6100004a on your HP Officejet Pro 6968 usually indicates a hardware failure, typically related to the printer's printhead or carriage mechanism. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the printer on.
  • Check if the error persists.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open the printer’s front door (where the ink cartridges are).
  • Look for any paper jams or debris in the carriage area.
  • Gently remove any stuck paper.

Reset the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on. This can reset the internal mechanisms.

Clean the Carriage and Printhead:

  • Open the printer’s cover and check if the printhead is stuck.
  • If it is stuck, gently move it to the center if possible.
  • If accessible, use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe the printhead.

Check the Ink Cartridges:

  • Ensure the ink cartridges are properly installed and not clogged.
  • If the cartridges are low or expired, replace them with new ones.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, then press and hold the # and 6 buttons on the printer’s control panel while plugging it back in.
  • Release the buttons after 30 seconds and let the printer reset.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve errors. If the printer is still functional to some extent, check HP’s website for any available firmware updates and follow their instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
