My printer shows that the cartridge door is open and will not print. If I press the lid when close, on the top left corner the error goes and I can print, but only while pressing the corner down. I suspect there is a switch or sensor just below that needs adjusting somehow.
Can anyone help me with this or tell me how to open the case up and either adjust or change the part / sensor?
A document or video on how to dis-assemble would help please.
You can email me directly at
Thank you.

Welcome to the HP support communtiy.
I understand that you are getting a door open error, I am glad to assist you.
Perform a power reset , Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.
- Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 30 seconds.
- Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
- Turn on the printer.
Update the printer firmware to install the latest updates

Thanks for your help. Actually I stripped the printer down, and I found that the proximity sensor for the door was not working properly. I tested it with a metal probe and found it would work if adjusted. I attached a bigger inductor to the door lid sensor tag - basically glued a metal sleeve on! I re-assembled. It works perfectly time and time again! I could not find any information on how to strip it down, so I had to work it out. Very fiddly!
Thing is, it works perfectly!
