Hi @nottechsavy6,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP ENVY Photo 7864 All-in-One Printer is stuck on the loading screen and unplugging doesn’t resolve it, this is usually caused by a firmware glitch or internal system fault. Here’s how to troubleshoot it step by step:
1. Basic Power Reset (Force Restart)
Sometimes unplugging alone doesn’t fully drain the power.
- With the printer on, unplug the power cable from the back of the printer
- Unplug it from the wall outlet
- Wait 60 seconds
- Press and hold the power button (while unplugged) for 15 seconds
- Plug it directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector or extension cord)
- Turn it on again
See if it boots past the loading screen.
2. Check USB Connections
- Disconnect any USB cables or memory cards connected to the printer
- Restart the printer
A faulty USB drive or cable can hang the boot process.
3. Firmware Recovery Mode (if accessible)
If you can access the printer's firmware update utility, you may be able to reinstall or recover the firmware.
To try this:
- Go to a Windows PC and install the HP Smart app
- Go to: HP ENVY Photo 7864 All-in-One Printer Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
- Download and run the firmware update utility while the printer is connected via USB
- If the printer is recognized, proceed with the update
⚠️ If the printer is frozen and not detected, firmware recovery may not be possible at home.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
