My photosmart 6520 printer was not printing "black" and after going through the troubleshooting process HP recommend - which did not work, I finally removed the printhead to clean it. I have done this a few times before to unclog the printhead but on this occasion I got a message "Printer Failure - error 0xc19a0013". Basically when printing a doc I receive a message in Windows
"Missing or Failed Printhead"
"Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Black"
"The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, incorrectly installed, or incompatible"
I checked cables and cleaned contacts but same. From the printer I can run the printhead cleaning process but not any of the reports.
Is there anyway to verify if printhead needs replacing? Is there any schematic of the ribbon cables to validate if I have inserted them correctly? I think the later is correct but you never know.

I managed to fix my problem and for anyone interested the solution was to clean out the purge pump.
These inkjet printers have a common problem with clogging, especially black as this is made up of pigments and becomes a gooie mess as it accumulates in the purge system.
I first thought it was the printer head but after spending hours going through Youtube videos I came across the following video:

I could have just cleaned out the pump but I took the complete overhaul route and boy I was glad I did it. Cleaned out 8 years of accumulated ink.
