can i put a hp74xl cartridge in a C4200 printer,if so how,it does'nt seem to fit,Staples guy gave it to me.

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.
I understand that you have an HP Photosmart C4200 All-in-One Printer and the HP 74xl cartridge does not seem to into the printer. This cartridge was purchased from Staples.
I did some research and found the ink cartridge compatibility chart for your printer. Please view the chart below:
- You may also view the HP Sure Supply link to check the cartridge compatibility.
- Also, please ensure that all the plastic taping is removed from the cartridge while inserting it in the printer: http://hp.care/2keH42R
If everything is in place and if the cartridge still does not fit in then you may contact HP phone support to seek a replacement cartridge under the warranty.
