HP Officejet Pro 6968
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I got a new HP Officejet Pro 6968 printer a few weeks ago.  When I attempt to print a file from Publisher to the printer or to anything else like a PDF file or XPS document writer, I get a "Printing" dialog box that says "waiting for Printer to respond: HP2C64B5 (HP OfficeJet Pro 6960)."  A while after this message appears, or after I click "cancel," I then get a "Microsoft Office Publisher" dialog box that says "Publisher cannot complete this operation."  I did not have these issues with my old HP Officejet printer but it was a different model.  I would really appreciate any help you have to fix this so I can print my documents again from Publisher.  I do not have this issue when I print Excel 2007 or Word 2007 documents.

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-in-One Printer. I read that the printer does not print files from Microsoft Publisher, PDF file or XPS document writer. I read that the printer is able to print Excel 2007 or Word 2007 documents.

This seems to be a driver or some software issue. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • You might want to repair Publisher (do NOT uninstall and reinstall). Open Publisher > Help > Office Diagnostics. Or go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Select Publisher > change > repair.

If the above option is unavailable to repair or if the issue persists post repairing the publisher then please attempt the following steps:

If the issue persists then let us uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them. The following steps will help:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • You may download and install the drivers from this link

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know the outcome. All the best! 🙂

I have the same and have tried all of the suggested solutions with the problem being fixed.

My printer is not new, but I have gotten a new HP laptop. My printer is an HP ENVY 4507. It has never before been a problem to print files from Publisher. I am getting very frustrated have spent the better part of an evening now trying to print.

I hope you have a solution.
