Hi @SushantPG,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the printhead of your HP Smart Tank 530 is stuck at one corner and not accessible for cleaning, here are a few troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
  • Turn the printer on and check if the printhead moves to the center position.

Manually Move the Printhead:

  • With the printer turned off, gently try to move the printhead manually by sliding it from the corner to the center of the printer. Be cautious not to force it.
  • Once it is centered, turn the printer back on and check if it’s accessible for cleaning.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open the printer and check for any paper or debris blocking the printhead path.
  • If you find any jam, carefully remove it.

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes, performing a reset can resolve printhead positioning issues. To reset the printer, press and hold the Power button and Cancel button (or the equivalent buttons on your model) for 10-15 seconds, then release.
  • Wait for the printer to restart and check if the printhead resets to its correct position.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Alden4,

I tried all the provided solutions but they didn't work.

I could not (hard) reset the printer as suggested "by pressing the power and cancel buttons" as my printer has only one 'Power' button. When I try to press and hold the power button for 10-15 seconds, nothing happens and printer display goes blank.  I even tried a factory reset option but it did not work either.

Please note that the printer prints pages only in yellow/red/black color but does not print the cyan / blue color. And that is why I am trying to clean/align the print head.

Can you help me suggest any other option to fix my issue?

Hi @SushantPG,

Thank you for your response,

If you've already tried the steps provided and the issue persists, there are a few additional advanced troubleshooting steps that might help resolve the problem.

Check Cyan Ink Supply and Flow

  • Ensure the cyan ink tank is adequately filled and the ink is flowing correctly.
  • Perform the following steps:
    1. Inspect the cyan ink tank for clogs or blockages in the ink tube or nozzle.
    2. Gently squeeze the cyan ink tank (if possible) to ensure ink is flowing through the system.
    3. Verify the ink system's valves are open and not blocked.

Advanced Printhead Cleaning

If the printhead is accessible:

  1. Remove the printhead carefully.
  2. Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to clean the printhead contacts and nozzles.
  3. Reinsert the printhead and run the printer’s "Clean Printhead" utility from the printer software.

If the printhead is still stuck:

  1. Power off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Open the printer cover and carefully inspect the printhead carriage.
  3. Use a flashlight to ensure there are no obstructions preventing movement.
  4. Apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to a cotton swab and gently clean the printhead tracks.

Force Printhead Alignment

  • Some HP printers allow for a manual printhead alignment:
    1. Open the printer software or app and look for the printhead alignment tool.
    2. If not accessible, check for firmware updates for your printer that might resolve alignment issues.

Update or Reinstall Firmware

  • Outdated firmware can cause issues with printhead functionality.
    1. Visit the HP support website and download the latest firmware for your HP Smart Tank 530 printer.
    2. Install the update and restart the printer.

Hardware Inspection

  • Inspect the following hardware components:
    1. Ensure the carriage belt (the belt moving the printhead) is not damaged or dislodged.
    2. Verify that the printhead carriage motor is functioning properly. A malfunction could prevent the printhead from moving.

Use a Diagnostic Tool

  • Use HP’s diagnostic tools like the HP Print and Scan Doctor (for Windows) or the HP Smart app to detect and fix the issue.
  • If the tool does not resolve the problem, it might provide a detailed error code to assist in further troubleshooting.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
