Hi @rhodancia,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the exclamation mark light on your HP Smart Tank 585 is flickering, it typically indicates an issue that needs attention. Here are some common troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.
Check for Paper Jams:
- Open the printer's access doors and check for any paper jams. If you find any, carefully remove the paper.
Check Ink Levels:
- Ensure that the ink tanks are filled with sufficient ink. If the ink levels are low, refill them. The exclamation mark can appear if the printer detects low or missing ink.
Check for Errors in the Printer’s Display:
- Look for any specific error messages on the printer's display panel. These messages can give you more insight into the issue.
Check for Blocked Printheads:
- If the printhead is clogged or blocked, the printer may fail to print. Try cleaning the printhead using the printer’s built-in cleaning function. You can usually find this option in the printer's menu under "Tools" or "Maintenance."
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in. Power it on again and check if the issue is resolved.
Check Network Connection:
- If the printer is connected wirelessly, ensure it is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network. You can check the network status on the printer’s display panel.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure the printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or the printer’s web interface.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
