Hi @PB316,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I see that you are facing an issue with using HP smart app for your Printer.
Please follow the below steps to fix the issue.
Update Windows and Drivers:
- Make sure your Windows 10 is up-to-date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
- Ensure that your printer drivers are up-to-date. You can do this through Device Manager or by visiting the HP website.
Check for HP Smart Updates:
- Go to the Microsoft Store, search for HP Smart, and check if there’s an update available. Sometimes issues are resolved with newer versions.
Clear Cache:
- Sometimes clearing the app’s cache can help. You can do this by navigating to the HP Smart app in Settings > Apps > HP Smart > Storage > Clear Cache.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- HP provides a diagnostic tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor. Download it from the HP website and run it to detect and fix any issues with your printer.

Check Background Processes:
- Ensure that there aren’t any conflicting background processes. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), look for any processes related to HP Smart or HP and end them, then try reopening HP Smart.
Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings:
- Sometimes firewall or antivirus settings can block the HP Smart app. Try temporarily disabling your firewall/antivirus and see if HP Smart opens. If it does, you may need to add an exception for HP Smart in your security software.
System File Check:
- Run the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and enter sfc /scannow.
A) If the issue still persists, uninstall the printer software by following the steps from this link and restart the devices.
B) Install the printer software by clicking on the link again and let me know if that resolves the issue.
Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day
