Hi @Metairie ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the loose white tape in the back of the cartridge holder on your HP ENVY Photo 7858 All-in-One Printer could be causing issues with cartridge alignment or detection. Here's how you can address it:

Turn Off and Unplug the Printer: Before you start, ensure the printer is turned off and unplugged from the power source to avoid any risk of electric shock.

Access the Cartridge Area: Open the cartridge access door. The carriage (where the cartridges are installed) should move to the center for easy access.

Inspect the White Tape: The white tape you see might be part of the printer’s internal mechanisms or a protective tape that needs to be removed. If it’s loose but not obstructing any parts, it might have come loose from its original position.

Reposition or Remove the Tape:

  • If it’s Protective Tape: If you think it’s a piece of tape that was meant to be removed before use, carefully pull it off. Make sure you only remove the protective tape and not any component that should remain in place.
  • If it’s Part of the Printer Mechanism: If the tape is part of the printer's internal mechanism and it’s just loose, try to gently reposition it so that it stays in place. Ensure it doesn’t interfere with the cartridge movement or printing mechanisms.

Check Cartridge Installation: Make sure the cartridges are installed correctly and securely. Reinsert them if necessary, following the instructions in your printer's manual.

Close the Cartridge Access Door: Once you've adjusted or removed the tape and ensured everything is in place, close the cartridge access door securely.

Plug in and Power On: Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Check if the issue is resolved and if the printer performs as expected.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
