Hi I am facing a problem when printing in black ink. The top half of some sentences/words are cut off. I only have black ink
cartridge installed. I have already tried cleaning, aligning cartirdge and reseting the printer. None of the steps have helped.
It is a new printer and it is not working from the day one! ;-(

Good Day. Thank you for posting your query in the HP community. I read the post regarding issues with the top part of sentences and text being cut off while printing in black. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Superb description and spectacular troubleshooting and commendable diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you try replacing the black ink cartridge and check if it works correctly?
- Did you try making copies directly from the printer to check if it copies correctly?
- Is it a USB or Wireless connection?
For now, try these steps:
Perform a hard reset on the printer.
- Turn on the printer.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- Disconnect the USB cable from the rear of the printer. If your printer has a network or wireless connection, leave it connected.
- Remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and from the wall outlet or power strip.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE:
- HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to a wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
- Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges, and then close the ink cartridge access door.
- If you receive a prompt to print a calibration page, do so.
- If you disconnected the USB cable, reconnect it to the rear of the printer.
- Try to print in black and check if the issue persists.
If it does, then make 2 copies in black directly from the printer without any communication from the computer.
If the copy behaves in the same manner, then please contact HP phone support to get the black ink cartridge replaced. This should fix the issue as long as there are no hardware issues with the printer. Otherwise, the printer needs to be replaced.
I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush. At this stage, it looks like a faulty cartridge that will need to be replaced.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.
If it copies correctly then try these steps:
What I would suggest here is to Remove the printer and then try to add the printer. For more assistance, please follow these steps here:
Confirm you are using AirPrint by adding the printer in System Preferences.
Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
Figure : Example of the Printers & Scanners window
Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, and then do one of the following steps.
If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm it is set up for AirPrint. Click the printer name, click the minus sign
to delete the printer, click the plus sign
, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name and then continue to the next step.
If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, and then continue to the next step.
If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, go to the Frequently asked questions in this document to resolve connection issues, try to add the printer again, and then continue to the next step.
Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

If the issue persists, Let's try to perform Reset Printing System in Mac:
- Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
- Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
- Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
- Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
- Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
- Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
- Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
- Click the “Add button” (+).
- Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
- Click “Print Using...” or “Use”, and then select Secure AirPrint or AirPrint.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
