Hi @Shund,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A persistent "Printer Failure" message on your HP OfficeJet 8600, combined with incorrect ink level readings for a brand new cyan cartridge, suggests a deeper issue possibly related to the ink system or printer firmware. Here are detailed steps to address this issue:

1. Check and Clean Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the printer to access the ink cartridges.
  • Remove the cyan ink cartridge and inspect it for any damage or leaks.
  • Clean the contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water. Ensure everything is dry before reinserting the cartridge.

2. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes to allow any residual power to dissipate.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

3. Firmware Update

  • Visit the HP Support website and check for any firmware updates available for your printer model.
  • Download and install any updates following the provided instructions.

4. Run Printhead Cleaning Utility

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to the "Settings" or "Maintenance" menu.
  • Select "Tools" or "Maintenance", then choose "Clean Printhead".
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the cleaning cycle.

5. Perform a Semi-Full Reset

This procedure can sometimes resolve deeper issues by resetting more of the printer's internal settings than a standard reset. However, it should be used with caution as it can reset network and other settings.

  • Turn off the printer.
  • While holding down the "Cancel" and "Resume" buttons, turn the printer back on.
  • Continue holding the buttons until the printer displays a message indicating a semi-full reset.

6. Check for Air in the Ink Lines

  • Inspect the ink lines for any air bubbles. If present, follow the printer's manual for the recommended procedure to purge air from the lines. This often involves priming the printhead or running additional cleaning cycles.

7. Printer Diagnostics

  • Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, available from the HP Support website. This tool can diagnose and sometimes fix various printer issues.
    • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you but none of these solutions helped. The error message comes up as soon as it powers back up, so you cannot access any of the tools. And there are no buttons on the printer to press to reset it.
