HP Officejet Pro 6970
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP Officejet Pro 6970. The printing looks OK, but in the Print Quality Report the Test Pattern 3 does not show even green bars. The top of the bars is green but lower on they are yellow with green lines.

I could not find an explanation for this fault.

The Nozzle Test (of the support menu) looks OK for me (not an expert!).

What could be the cause of this problem? Clogged nozzles (with good nozzle test?)? Print head harware defect? ???

PS

It is a pity that I could not find systematic description of the Print Quality Report with known errors and SOLUTIONS.

Additional information:

After one cleaning cycle the printed Quality Page shows errors in the blue bars (at the left) and green bars (at the right) of the printed page. Stange, with no errors on the Print Quality Diagnostic Page in Test Pattern 2.

@Andr-1611. Thanks.
I do mot agree that replacing the magenta cartridge would solve the problem with printing cyan.

I contacted HP Support.

The HP representatve told me, that after three times cleaning the cartridges further cleaning does not make sense.

So the conclusion was, that it is a hardware failure of the printhead and/or the ink system.

Replacing the printhead is no option because of the high cost.

There is no explanation why cyan on the Printer Status Report (only bar) and the Nozzle Test shows no error. Also there is no explanation of the rapid changing results on the Print Quality Pages for cyan related tests.

Hello @FBFATA1020 ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Here the quality report is explained, Step 10: Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page

and print the "printer status report", download the user guide

and

upload here, click on the icon "Insert photos", "Set format = Large", original size at least 200 KB.
But before you must remove or delete the personal data and printer serial number on the printout.

Regards
Andr-1611

Andr-1611. Thanks for your reaction.

Before posting I read the manual and Step 10: Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page

In these documents I could not find images of printing errors with an explanation how to solve them.

I overlooked the "Insert Photo's"-icon. So, I now upload scans of the reports:

@Andr-1611 Again thanks for your rhinking along.

I had seen that the magenta cartidge has exceeded its expiry date. However, as there is no problem in printing magenta, I do not worry about this.

What puzzles me is that on the Test Pattern 2 of the Print Quality Diagnostic Page the cyan block nearly seems to be OK and yellow block looks OK, but that on the Test Pattern 3 no even green (yellow+blue) bars are printed.

I have cleaned the print head extensively with water, alcohol and the built-in cleaning program.

After some waiting time the Print Quality Diagnostic Page looks much better, although not perfect.

In printing colored bars the cyan bar shows a severe error:

Colored bars after cleaning 2011 11 06.jpg

I do not understand, why a cyan bar is not printed correctly, as cyan level is printed without an error (level about 80%). An other cyan cartridge does not solve this problem.

What could be the cause: still clogged printhead? Defective Printhead, which have to be exchanged?.

With an other printer I had also problems with an original cyan cartidge, which proofed to be caused by bad  ink!

Hello @FBFATA1020 ,

to understand how Ink works, here is a link: Ink Usage in Inkjet Printers
Note:

ReFill cartridges, insufficient ink quality, can damage the printer's ink system.

@Andr-1611. Thanks again, now for the link abount ink.

However, the cause of the problem is still unknown. The cartridges are original HP and not refilled.

After extensive cleaning of the cartridges page number 4847 was promising (see above), However, continuing printing the error came back. The Test Pattern 2 of the Print Quality Diagnostic Page varied highly; Test Pattern 3 was very bad on one of the next pages

Need the cartridges more cleaning or point these errors to a hardware failure of the printhead?
