I saw the same question about someone else's HP 7000 series printer from Nov 2020. The HP rep suggested a total uninstall/reinstall. I did so, but got the same result. The printer does even not read the new black cartridge at all. I reads the old, empty black cartridge, which, of course doesn't print because it's empty. I assumed it was just a bad ink cartridge, but the cost per replacement makes me think it might be better to get a new printer -- different brand. I thought I'd check this support page first... sure enough, it seems to be an HP printer problem more than the cartridges. I've had HP printers for years. the first thing to go is usually the wifi, which is a hassle but an easy work-around. Upgrade to the 7645 and find out there is a pattern of black ink problems? Not good HP. I welcome anyone else's advice.

@boydhome, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
If the new ink cartridge is not detected but the printer reads the old one, it means the new ink cartridge could be defective. Is this is a HP ink cartridge?
Make sure you have tried the steps mentioned in this document - HP Printer Does not Print and Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge
Ensure the plastic tape if any, is removed from the new ink cartridge before placing it in the printer.
If the issue persists and it is an HP ink cartridge that is under warranty, please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the replacement options.
