Hi @jclint67,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the suggested fix for restoring the default settings on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 didn't resolve the IP address issue, there are a few other methods you might want to try. Each of these steps addresses a different potential cause of the problem:

Restart Your Printer and Router:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Restart your wireless router by unplugging it, waiting about a minute, and plugging it back in.
  • Once your router is back online, plug in and turn on your printer.
  • Wait for the printer to connect to your network. This might resolve any temporary connectivity issues.

Manually Set the IP Address:

  • On your printer, navigate to the network settings through the printer’s display panel.
  • Look for an option to manually set the IP address. If your network is using DHCP, you can find an available IP address by looking at the list of connected devices on your router's admin page.
  • Set the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway according to your network configuration.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • HP often release firmware updates that can resolve connectivity issues. Check the HP website for any available updates for your printer model.
  • Follow the instructions provided by HP to update your printer’s firmware. This often involves downloading a file to your computer and then transferring it to your printer via USB or over the network.

Check Printer Network Settings:

  • Access the printer's network settings via its display panel.
  • Ensure the printer is set to connect using DHCP (if your network uses DHCP), which allows the router to automatically assign an IP address to the printer.
  • If there’s an option for wireless modes (e.g., 2.4GHz vs. 5GHz), make sure it’s compatible with your router’s settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
