My HP printer runs maintenance every time it goes to print if I haven't printed in more than a couple of day.  I have updated the firmware.  At least the software says my firmware is update after I run the update.   I really wish I could stop it from doing this.  Please help.

Hi @StuWilson,

I'd like to help!

I understand that the printer runs maintenance every time you print.

To assist better -

Does the printer print a quality page after the maintenance?

Does the maintenance happen every print or only when you haven't printed it in a couple of days?

Keep me posted.

I have already answered these questions

No it does not print a quality page

Yes it always happens if no having printed in a few days.

The maintenance occurs to avoid clogs in the printhead as the printer is not being used for a while.

This task cannot be disabled.

Hope this helps!

I have had printers for many years and never ever had one that ran maintenance every couple of days and I rarely, if ever, have had a clog.  Maybe if I hadn't printed in many months.  This constant running of maintenance is totally unnecessary and annoying to have to wait two- three minutes  to print.  I find your response to this issue to be totally unacceptable.

I respect your feedback.

We could try and reset the printer and then monitor the printer for a couple of days to check if the maintenance takes place.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
