HP203dw laser jet, keeps printing envelopes send address at the top of the envelope. #10 envelope Settings are in hp smart app on windows 11. Have tried changing the settings on MS word as well with no luck. Tried reinstalling drivers and rolling them back with no luck. Computer is a Lenovo laptop with windows 11 64 bit pro build. 2021 MS word office build 16.0.18623.20178 version 2503, 64 bit. Looking for help. Thanks.

Hi @TBlakeC,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP LaserJet Pro M203dw is stuck printing the sender's address at the top of the envelope, no matter what you change in settings. That’s understandably frustrating, especially since you’ve already gone through the major steps like reinstalling drivers and tweaking settings in both HP Smart and Word.

Let’s go step by step and address both Word and printer-level envelope printing behaviour.

1. Check Printer Defaults Outside of HP Smart

  1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  2. Right-click your HP LaserJet M203dw > Printing Preferences
  3. Under the Paper/Quality tab:
    • Set Paper Size to #10 Envelope
    • Set Paper Type to Envelope
  4. Click Advanced and double-check paper size matches #10 Envelope (4.125" x 9.5")

📌 Important: Many print jobs (like those from Word) override printer driver settings unless default preferences are also set.

2. Fix Word Envelope Layout (Recommended by HP + Microsoft)

  1. In Word, go to:
    • Mailings > Envelopes > Options
  2. In the Envelope Options tab:
    • Set Envelope size to #10 Envelope
    • Adjust the Delivery Address and Return Address positions manually:
      • Try:
        • Delivery: From left: 0.5" / From top: 2.25"
        • Return: From left: 0.5" / From top: 0.5"
  3. Go to the Printing Options tab
    • Choose Feed from: Manual Feed
    • Select Face up / Top of page first (depending on how the printer feeds)

🔁 Tip: Test by previewing print layout in Word to confirm it matches the expected output.

3. Disable HP Smart App “Auto Layout Correction” (if applicable)

HP Smart sometimes overrides manual settings.

  1. In HP Smart, click on your printer
  2. Go to Advanced Settings > Printing Preferences
  3. Make sure no automatic layout corrections or media sensing options are enabled that could override Word settings

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
