This printer, with genuine HP toner, is showing a supply memory error.  How do I make it go away?

(NB. I am not buying new HP toner. Toner is already a rip off)

Hello,

Supply memory error means either the cartridge is not installed correctly or has a defective chip.

Try removing the cartridge and inspecting it for damage or packaging material.  Sometimes folks forget to remove the orange plastic that holds the cartridge together in the packaging.  Make sure the cartridge is clicked into place like the others.

The toner was working fine last week, and for months prior to that. There's no packing material. It just all of a sudden stopped working. No firmware updates have been applied to the printer.

Hello ,

Try the below steps...

  1. Disconnect the printer from the NETWORK
    •  If on wired network : Unplug the  Ethernet cable from back of the printer.
    • If on wireless network : Power of the Wireless router.
  2.  Wait for 60 seconds.
  3. Now Plug in the power cord to the printer and power on the printer.
  4. Install the Toner cartridge when prompted
  5. Check if error message appears, if error is not displayed then print "Event log" and "Configuration Page".
  6. Now connect you printer to the network ( Ethernet or Wireless ).
  7. Let me know if the issue got fixed. You may email the Even log and the configuration page by clicking the Envelope icon on the top right of this window.

Hello,

Based on the Error logs you shared in the earlier report, i'd suggest you to get in touch with HP Support. Use the below url to access the support options for your printer in Ireland.

Yes, that would be ideal. But despite my printer being less than 4 years old, and the toner less than that, the only support option is this forum, or the automated bot. If you have any ideas how to encourage anyone at HP to address the issue with their hardware

I recently upgraded my laptop. It was 10 years old, and still working fine. But then it was a Dell. If HP thinks a printer should be effectively bricked by their own software (honestly, why does toner even need memory?) at less than 4 years with the best part of €400 worth of toner inside, is exactly why I wouldn't buy an HP laptop. Or another one of their printers.
