HP Photosmart 7510 e-All-in-One Printer - C311b

I have a 7510 Photosmart all in one unit (C311b). The original cartridges (HP 178) are basically impossible to find in Europe now. HP themselves recommend using the 364 cartridge so I bought a brand new OEM set, upgraded the firmware and nothing works as the cartridges are not recognised. So now i have set of new yet useless cartridges as recommended by HP. I cannot do anything with the printer at present as it's stuck on the cartridge error screen. Any advice?

Hi @MJA1969

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

here are some troubleshooting steps you can take:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the HP 364 cartridges are compatible with your specific printer model (C311b). While HP may recommend these cartridges, it’s essential to verify compatibility.

2. Inspect the Cartridges:

  • Make sure the cartridges are correctly installed. Remove the cartridges and carefully reinstall them, ensuring they click into place.
  • Check for any protective tape or plastic on the cartridges that might not have been removed.

3. Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes a reset can clear errors.

4. Clean the Contacts:

  • Gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer using a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab lightly dampened with water. Make sure the printer is off when you do this.

5. Update Firmware Again:

  • If you haven’t already, try checking for firmware updates again to ensure your printer has the latest software.

6. Perform a Hard Reset:

  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi. I tried all of these and there is no progress.

HP suggest the 178 cartridge but these have been end of sale for years and I cannot find them in Europe. The HP website suggests the 364 but as I have found, these are not working.

All I need is a HP 178 Black to complete the set but cannot find it in Europe.
