HP ENVY 5030 All-in-One Printer

The printer is not working. Tried all the other options such as restarting, and checking firmware, changing cartridges and turning WiFi on and off.

Hi @MrsBJA ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY 5030 All-in-One Printer is showing a print cartridge error and not communicating with the printer despite troubleshooting, here are detailed steps you can try:

Step 1: Verify the Cartridge Installation

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Open the printer access door and check if the cartridges are installed correctly.
    • Ensure that the cartridges are seated firmly in their slots.
    • Check for any protective tape left on the cartridges (common with new cartridges). If present, gently remove it.
  3. Close the access door and plug the printer back in.

Step 2: Clean the Cartridge Contacts

Over time, dust or ink residue can interfere with communication between the cartridge and the printer.

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Remove the cartridges from their slots.
  3. Using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water, clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges.
  4. Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges into the printer.

Step 3: Reset the Printer

  1. Disconnect all cables from the printer, including the power cord.
  2. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cable and turn the printer back on.
  4. Check if the error persists.

Step 4: Check for Firmware Updates

Even though you've checked firmware updates, re-confirm using the HP Smart app or HP’s website:

  1. Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
  2. Search for your printer model (HP ENVY 5030).
  3. Download and install the latest firmware, if available.

Step 5: Try Another Set of Cartridges

  • If you have another set of HP-compatible cartridges (preferably original HP ones), install them to rule out cartridge issues.

Step 6: Perform a Semi-Full Reset

A semi-full reset clears settings and can fix deeper communication issues.

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Hold the Cancel and Power buttons simultaneously for about 20 seconds.
  3. Release the buttons and turn the printer back on.

Step 7: Inspect for Hardware Issues

  1. Check the cartridge area and the printer for any visible damage or debris.
  2. If the error persists, the issue could be a faulty printhead or a hardware failure.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
