HP5524 Printer Error Message - Ink Cartridge Problem

I have not used my HP Printer for over a year for many reasons.  I printed and it was fine except the black ink was very, very faded.  I installed a new black cartridge and since then have received the error message "One or more Cartridges appear to be missing or damaged.  Install or repair the affected cartridges."  It is showing the black cartridge underneath.  Nothing I do can clear the error message.  Thanks in advance for your help.
