HP5530
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Have tried everything under the sun and above the moon to get this printer connected wirelessly to my network.  I have 2 other laptops running Win10 Home version and they are working just dandy.   No issues.

However, I simply cannot connect my Acer Laptop running Win10 to the printer.  I have removed the HP printer from the registry, I have done the standard stuff with the Spooler folder etc. etc. so I think that there are no drivers anywhere on the laptop since the 5530 no longer shows in the registry.

And yet it is impossible to connect wirelessly.  What makes it so frustrating is that after downloading the HP driver software fron the HP website it does show the 5530 on the network but when you try to connect it just goes round and round to the point I get dizzy and it never connects.

Thank goodness I have the other 2 laptops in the event I need to print out something important, like my last will and testament.

Any new suggestions are apprciated since all the old ones do not work.  Other than dropping the printer from my 10th story balcony, I am open to any "new" ideas.

Just a follow up again.  Since the HP Scan program fails... you have computer problems like I said.  Since the other programs you mentioned got hammered this does not surprise me.    In every case when the HP Scan program failed, removing the complete software/drivers and reinstalled resolved the issue.  However since you have other computer issues this may not work.  Sorry.  Good luck.

@LJBRO,

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

I understand that you are facing issue with the wireless connection.

Let’s try to fix this issue by doing a clean install.
Follow the steps mentioned below:

First, unplug the USB cable from the printer is present.
Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP ENVY  printer entries and uninstall them.
Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.

Restart your computer.

Click the bottom-left Start button on the desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.

Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise.
Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.

Once done, close device-manger.
Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
Again, go to Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files.
You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
Now restart your computer again.
Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties.
Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.

Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.

Click here to download and install the software.

Let me know how it goes!

Thanks for the recommendations.  Actually it turned out to be rather simplistic in the end as far as getting the PRINTER function up and running.  As easy as going to Devices and Printers on the Win10 Menu and then simply adding the HP 5535 as a new printer.  Somehow despite my removing HP software in the registry and mucking about with the Print Spooler,  the 5535 was added and I am now able to print without difficulty.

Ahhhh but there is always a BUT.  I cannot still for the life of me enable the Scan function.  I used the HP Print Doctor and it does its usual troubleshooting stuff and actually is able (I think) to communicate with the 5535.  It sort of thinks for awhile and then gives me the all clear in effect saying, I have talked to your printer and everything is A-OK.

Alas, using the HP Print and Scan menu, I again for the upteenth time try to do the scan and the unforgettable error message comes up telling me that my HP 5535 series cannot be found.  What a PITA.

Anyhow I am sure it is a conflict buried deep inside the motherboard as a result of the god forsaken auto update of Win 10 (thank you Bill Gates) that simply will not allow me to use the scan function.

The good news is that I am not alone in my frustration as I can take solace from all the other users of the 5535 in the world who cannot scan after the Win 10 update.  I have to say it makes me feel just a little bit better, not a lot better, just a little.

I don't want to go through the hassle of uninstalling all the HP software and associated drivers since I know in my heart and mind it will never work.  The good news is that my other 2 laptops are quite happy scanning and printing to the 5535.  They remind me of my puppies:  as long as you feed them, take them for walks and give them the occasional hug, they will always be there for you.

Scanning issues…

Please try this scan solution:

HP Scan Extended

For Windows:   ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Check all your settings and expand all tabs and all + signs to see all options.

Make searchable PDFs scans with this free scanning software - https://www.naps2.com/

Let us know.

Sabretooth, thanks again.  This was very good advice, best I have seen in some time.

I did in fact download the HP Scan EXT application and it seemed pretty nifty.  Unfortuantely when I executed the application it came back with the error message that "There was no scanner available" which seems awfully strange since the 5535 is on line and is my default printer and is printing away very nicely.

Thank you also for the NAPS link which I will try tomorrow since I am about to call it a day.

Will look forward to seeing if it will work as a Substitute Scanning Application.

It is almost as if the printer is out there on the network visible and usable for printing by all 3 laptops and scanning for 2 of the 3 laptops, but there is clearly something imbedded in the 3rd laptop that is saying I refuse to acknowledge the existance of the scanning function of the 5535.

It is mildly frustrating but at the same time a good challenge to troubleshoot what in the world is causing this glitch.

You have other problems now if this program does not work with your computer.  Try this...

Fully de-install and remove the printer and all its software.  Use this program here:

http://www.iobit.com/en/advanceduninstaller.php

When shown use Powerful Scan at the end and delete all registry entries shown for the printer.

Now go back and reinstall the Full Featured Software and Drivers from the HP web site.

Good morning Sabretooth.  Just wanted to let you know that the Naps software is working perfectly.  So for the time being since the 5535 is printing OK via the HP All in One software and I can now Scan using Naps, I think I will defer using the iObit removal tool.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.  As you can note from above, I can scan, just not with the HP software so somehow Naps is able to communicate with scanner without difficulty.

Regards.

Just a follow-on suggestion.  I have been struck by the number of HP All in One users who are stymied by their inability to use the scan function after being forced to update Win 10 (even if they might not want it).

In my case the Win 10 upgrade not only did away with my scan function but it also managed to disable all of my Office apps including Outlook, Excel and Word.  As you can imagine I have become quite the expert in rolling back the Win 10 upgrade to what was working previously and I have also become a semi-expert in playing with settings and the Registry to deny Win 10 the opportunity to continue to wreak havoc with its incessant prompts and efforts to continue to upgrade.

That said, would it not make sense to simply recommend the Naps Link to all users who have lost the scan function.  It worked perfectly in my situation and I was exptremely grateful to Sabretooth for his advice.  Otherwise I would have continued to be frustrated and at wits end to use the scan on the HP 5535.

Just a thought.

Thanks again for very timely reply.  I was only suggesting that your advice regarding the Naps Application was a good one and applicable to many other HP users who may be unable for any number of reasons to get the scan function working.  I for one am very pleased with the Naps alternative.

Regards.
