Ink System Failure message - followed all the recommended fixes (unplug/plug cord, remove ink cartridges, etc.).

Printer good for 1 print job, then error message reappears.

To fix the ink system failure issue, try the steps below:

  • Reset the printer
  • Remove the ink cartridges
  • Clean the ink cartridges, and then check the error message
  • Update the printer firmware

Problem not solved - followed the suggested actions but no results - same error message 'Missing or failed printhead'.

Also saw same situation posted by BigDaveXXL today 1-18-19.

Since the steps suggested did not resolve this issue, I suggest trying factory reset on the printer.

I'm going to send you a private message with the information required to perform the reset. The only reason why we are utilizing the instructions over the private message as these instructions are specific to your printer model.

To check your private message, please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile. Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Tried your suggestion for Reset, but it did not work:

1. There was no diagram so trying to find the Return Button was difficult - think it is the 180degree return arrow? Finally could catch a shadow of it.

2. Following directions, I pressed the return button 4 times, then touched the Support Menu (not certain where to touch if that makes a difference) -will assume support menu refers to menu screen, because that is all the is apparent.

3. Nothing happens. Also tried the House icon but again nothing happens.

 

In general, cannot get past the 'Ink System Failure' followed by 'Missing or failed printhead'. Very disappointing.

 

I did purchase a 8710 as a replacement - am disappointed as (A) it is larger than the 6600, (b) is seems flimsier (?) than the 6600, and (C) the print cartridges were difficult to install - they did not immediately catch on installation, kept popping out.

 

So in conclusion, I'm having to scrap a costly electronic device, along with the extra HP ink cartridges and replace with a printer/fax/scanner/copier of lesser quality requiring investment of different print cartridges.
