Hi @RussFav,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the ink alert light is flashing on your HP DeskJet 3636 All-in-One Printer even after replacing the cartridges, it typically indicates that the printer isn't recognizing the new cartridges properly.
Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:
1. Check Cartridge Installation:
- Ensure that the cartridges are installed correctly. Remove them, check for any protective tape that might still be on the nozzles or contacts, and then reseat them firmly.
2. Clean Cartridge Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the cartridges.
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer where the cartridges are inserted.
- Allow the contacts to dry for a few minutes before reinserting the cartridges.
3. Reset the Printer:
- Disconnect the power cord from the printer while it's still on.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
- Check if the error persists.
4. Use the Printer's Control Panel:
- If you're unable to access the HP Smart app due to a forgotten password, you can try to check the ink levels and error messages directly from the printer's control panel.
- Follow the steps in your printer’s manual to print a test page or check the status.
5. Try a Different Cartridge:
- In rare cases, the new cartridge might be defective. If possible, try using a different cartridge to see if the problem persists.
6. Accessing the HP Smart App:
- If you need access to the HP Smart app but have forgotten your password, you can try resetting the password using the "Forgot Password" option in the app. If you're still unable to access it, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the app to start fresh.
7. Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- If possible, update the printer’s firmware to ensure compatibility with the new cartridges. This can sometimes resolve recognition issues.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
