Hi @CHare2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 is not printing colors correctly and you’ve already checked ink levels, cleaned the printhead, and performed printer maintenance, the issue might be more complex. Here’s a detailed troubleshooting guide to help resolve color printing issues:

1. Verify Color Settings and Print Quality

Check Print Settings:

  • Open Print Dialog: When printing, go to File > Print in your application.
  • Printer Properties: Click on Properties or Preferences.
  • Print Quality: Ensure the print quality is set to Best or High to ensure optimal color output. Check if the Color option is selected rather than Black & White or Grayscale.

2. Perform Printhead Alignment

Alignment Utility:

  • Printer Menu: On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup or Settings.
  • Printhead Alignment: Look for Printer Maintenance or Tools, and select Align Printhead or Printhead Alignment. Follow the on-screen instructions.

3. Check and Replace Color Cartridges

  • Remove Cartridges: Open the cartridge access door and remove the color cartridges.
  • Check for Damage: Inspect the cartridges for any signs of damage or leaks.
  • Replace Cartridges: If the cartridges are old or defective, replace them with new, genuine HP cartridges.
  • Reinstall Properly: Ensure that the cartridges are installed correctly and click into place.

4. Clean Printhead Manually

Manual Cleaning:

  • Turn Off Printer: Turn off and unplug the printer.Remove Printhead: If your model allows, carefully remove the printhead assembly.
  • Clean Printhead: Use a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water to gently clean the printhead. Avoid touching the nozzles directly. Let it dry completely before reinserting.

5. Run Printer Diagnostic Tools

  • Download and Run: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP Support website. This tool can diagnose and fix many common printing issues, including color problems.

6. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Visit HP Support: Go to the HP Support website and check for any available firmware updates for your OfficeJet Pro 8028. Follow the instructions to update the firmware.

7. Perform a Factory Reset

  • Access Settings: On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup or Settings.
  • Factory Reset: Look for an option to Restore Defaults or Factory Reset and follow the instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
