Last night my printer started making a loud noise when a printed a collated copy of a document. Now every time it reaches the end of the line feed, not sure if that is what its called, anyways when it reaches the end of the line it makes this loud ping noise. Sounds kind of like someone struck a piece of metal. This has never happened before yesterday, now everytime I print something it sound like its going to snap when it reaches the end of the line.

I tried cleaning the print head, aligning the printer, and calibrating the line feed, and still makes this noise. It seems to be printing things out okay, so I'm not sure what happened. I have had this printer for many years, so its most likely got some wear and tear from repeated use.

Is this something I should ignore, or should I start looking for a new printer?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Cheers,

Darren

Thank you for the update,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

You may be using it for a business, but that model is listed under consumer products,

And You are right if the reset didn't do the trick its definitely a hardware failure and I recommend you Contact HP to set up a hardware repair order:

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand the printer is making a loud noise though you've already cleaned the printhead apart from the others,

No worries as I'd love to help, however, I need a few more details to provide an accurate solution:

Did you attempt to upgrade the firmware to see if that makes a difference?

Did you clean the automatic document feeder?

While I await your response, try the below steps:

Solution one: Update the firmware

Follow these steps to update your firmware.

  1. Click this link: Select Software and Drivers. A new window displays.

  2. Review the download options and information, and then click Download. Save the file to your computer.

     NOTE:

Click the View directions link for step-by-step instructions on downloading and installing the firmware.

  3. Browse to the file you saved, and then double-click the file to launch the HP Firmware Download Utility.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

  • If the issue persists, continue to the next solution.

Solution two: Check the paper in the ADF

Paper feed issues in the automatic document feeder might result from dusty, torn, wrinkled, wet, or folded paper in the ADF tray. The quality of the paper can also make a difference. Use only good quality paper that meets product specifications. Follow these steps to check the condition of the paper.

Solution three: Clean the ADF rollers and separator pad

Dust or paper residue on the rollers or separator pad inside the ADF can cause paper feed issues.

Let me know if none of the above steps work, as the last resort would be to perform a semi-full reset and I should be able to help you with the instructions.

I have tried all the solutions you have suggested and has not removed the pinging sound. Can you let me know how to do semi-full reset. Also in the event that it is a hardware issue and something is broken, how would I go about getting it serviced, how much it may cost based on what I have described, that sort of thing.

My bottom left button on the screen is for making a copy, this does not lead to a support menu. In fact I went through each screen and couldn' t find anything close to what you are describing. The only option I had is reset factory deflaut, which didn't actually change much.

Thank you for the update,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

It basically refers to tapping on the bottom left 3 or 4 times as mentioned on the steps,

That said, I've sent another private message considering there are two printer models within the same series,

Please check the same,

Keep me posted,

I was able to reset my printer to factory default. However, the noise is still unchainged. It is likely that something broke, came loose, is misaligned or otherwise. I know my printer is well past its warranty, but since this is a bussiness printer, it might actually be cheaper to fix than replace with something similar. Where can I take my printer for service?

According to the contact page, my product is no longer serviced by HP and therefore I cannot submit a contact request. Is there any alternative?
