@Meachie

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer and it does not print. A message appears saying "Printer not connected". You have to restart the printer to make it to print. Not to worry, I'll do my best to assist you with this case.

I did some research on this case and looks like the printer is losing the IP address assigned to it. However, I suggest you to perform the steps from this HP article to fix such connectivity issues.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know how it goes. Cheers! 🙂

This was not a connectivity issue as I had indicated in my post. Other functions of the OfficeJet Pro worked, just not the print function. The HP article I was referred to, led me to a place where I was finally able to get "Print" to work, for now.

Hello, @Meachie

I see that you were interacting with @MKazi. He is out of office and I'd like to help 🙂

Is the issue resolved or are you still facing the issue? If the issue is completely resolved, then let us know by marking the post as a solution.

If you are still facing the issue, or anytime in future,  you can follow the steps below:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.
  • Click “Print Using...” or “Use”, and then select the name of your printer (if available) or AirPrint.

Let me know how that goes!

Cheers 🙂
