Photosmart 5520
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

Hello,

I accidentally deleted the keychain for my MacBook, and now I can't access my HP Photosmart 5520. My computer can find the printer wirelessly, but when I press Add Printer, it tries to download software, and then says "software is not available, try again later". I went onto the HP site and downloaded the sotware and drivers directly. I then ran the HP Set Up and at the stage where I would Add Printer the same thing happened again. It tried to download software, but said the software isn't available.

Help! Is there anything I can do?

Thank you, Ian

Updating Mac OS X and installing a compatible driver may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

Please ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with it's software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer and Mac software:

Update printer firmware

Update software on Mac

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select the name of your printer in the Use menu

6.) Try to print.

Let me know how it goes!

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I am unable to update my OS beyond 10.6.8 - my computer is 10 years old and can not run the new OS. This has not been an issue for me with the printer up until now, which I've used successfully for a few years now. I will try your other steps, but I am unable to update the OS.

I followed your steps and it worked - I'm now able to print again. Thank you!
