Heyho,

#spoiler: the following section is mostly HP-rant

I have recently bought a used Samsung printer and wanted to set it up today, but unfortunately nothing seems to work.

So I decided to get support and to my greatest (!) horror I realized, that HP does support Samsung printers. I got to say, I have a very bad history with HP as I have had a HP printer previously (which convinced me to never, ever buy an HP printer again) and have had a lot of contact with the HP support for my laptop, where the HP support without my consent reinstalled bloatware, I had previously uninstalled and very experimentally changed settings in my registry, which led to even more failures than I had before. Oh yes, and the original problem - never solved. Not after I had them remote control my laptop for several hours and invested even more time in following their troubleshooting guidance. So one advice for everyone who is familiar with PCs: Never let the HP support remote control your device, do every step yourself or at least watch your screen while they are in remote and always be ready to cancel it. Okay, let's continue to the real problem.

#Here the important part begins

So I have a Samsung CLP-325 now. The warning LED is constantly red. I can connect it to the PC via USB, the driver installation works fine (it's recognized as a CLP-320 series printer) and if I run the 'Samsung Printer Diagnostics' tool, it does not detect any errors (even though the printer seems to know that there are some?). There is paper in the tray (A4), but when I try to print a test page, nothing happens. Funnily in the driver install setup it asks you if you want to print a test page. If you do so and give feedback that it wasn't successful it pauses for some seconds as if it was doing something - and just prompts you to print a test page again.

Also, I can't connect the printer in the Samsung Easy Printer Manager.

I further wanted to test if I could connect it directly via LAN, so I broke open the network slot on the PC, but it doesn't seem to have a RJ45 plug? It's just empty behind it. Is there a way to connect it to the network or do they really sell laser printers (which are really complex machines!) without the really, really cheap addition for network integration to charge higher prices if you want to have it? I don't know that, but if it would be the case that would be ethically more than questionable.

This is not the way we become eco-friendly - this is a waste of resources!

And one of the other main problems: I'd try to get help from the HP support (even though I don't trust it), but when I enter the serial number in their form, they seem to not be able to trace it to the product. And as far as I could see, that's a dead end there - I couldn't see any options to contact the support without going through the serial number. If you know of a possibility to do so, please let me know 🙂

Okay, before I drift away again, I'll just send it as it is. If you have any more questions or suggestions, I'm at your disposal.

Have a great and sunny Sunday!

Best

Carroll

HP Support - Technical Support for Devices in Warranty

Reminders

  • Case submission to HP Support is available to those whose devices registered and are still in Warranty.
  • Not every issue is covered under the standard Hardware Warranty.  Purchased Care Pack Warranties differ by contract.
  • HP is not a "general" repair facility: Requests for out-of-warranty repairs are generally not accepted.
  • If the problem is hardware, if your device is in Warranty, if your device is Registered, and you cannot submit your case to Support, let us know and we will forward a request.
  • HP Phone numbers you find on the Internet have likely been hijacked.

Out of Warranty?  What to do...

For those of us who are "Out of Warranty" people, submitting a case to HP is not an option.

HP Support does not generally provide free service for out-of-warranty devices.

Our Community is not HP Support; we do offer help free of charge.
