I can't find an Envy 6500 printer - and the Officejet 6500 printer is circa 2009.

Regardless, if you can find your printer, you can open the printer's support website
Select Category Manuals
Open the User Guide and find - in the first few pages - quite a bit about the parts and how the printer works.
And, as a general answer to your question - I have yet to see a printer without an on/off switch. There might be one out there somewhere - I've not run across it.
