Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with the Officejet 6960 on a wifi network - it's rumoured that this option should be disabled if you cable it or connect to a network, but I'm ALWAYS connected to the network and it still turns off!! I'm very pissed off, as I got rid of my last Officejet for exactly the same reason and have therefore wasted about £150. Can't print unless you turn it off and on - not good even if you're standing beside it, but really not good if you're in a different room on a different floor! How stupid can they get?
Lots of posts with this problem on other HP printers.....

@Tombar1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
There is no option to disable Auto-Off. This is as per the design to save Power. On a HP Officejet 6960, you can delay it upto 8hrs.
Also, Sleep mode cannot be disabled, although on some printers you can change the inactive time before the printer enters sleep mode. Sleep mode can be delayed up to 15min.
To know more, refer to this document.
Also, check Schedule Printer On/Off. Go to Setup > Power management
Which Operating system is installed on your PC?
Assigning a Static IP address to the printer may resolve any intermittent wireless connectivity issue.
- Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
- Type the IP address at the top of your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
- If you get any security notification, click on show details and 'proceed to this website'.
- Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
- Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
- Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
- Click on the radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
Let me know how this goes.

I now know that, having wasted a lot of money buying a second Officejet with the same problem. it's absolutely moronic not being able to disable Auto-off - it should be my decision, not bloody HPs! What sort of idiots would make Auto-Off obligatory?
I'd already tried static IP several times - it had no effect.

Assigning a Static IP Address is to make the wireless connectivity stable. Do you still have any issues with connectivity? We can troubleshoot on that. However, regarding the Auto-Off feature on the printer, I have brought this to the notice of the Engineering and Design team in HP who will look into it. Thank you for the feedback.
Keep me posted for further assistance.
