I want to be able to access the SD cards via the computer, when placed in the printer.

The only solution offered was for mapping a drive for a pc.

Mac OS X Lion

I,

If you use a USB connection you should find the SD Card reader mounted in Finder under Go > Computer.

For Netwrk connection you may map a network driver access as following:

  1. Click the Finder icon, then click the Go menu and select Connect to a server.
  2. In the server address type smb://ipaddress of the printer.
Note: you may locate teh ip address by clicking the Network icon on the top of the printer's front panel.
  3. When prompted to enter a password, leave the values empty as default and click Connect.
  4. The SD Card Reader is now mounted and can be accessed from Finder (under Go > Computer)

I found answer here:

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/Transferring-pics-from-memory-card-in-printer-to-comp...

The key was to add path to the smb://(your printer IP address)/ /memory_card

In my case it's:  smb://192.168.2.24/memory_card for example
