I would like to turn off the lights on my printer?
I know I can turn off the printer....but some say that harms the printer and uses more ink while printer restarts......Is this true or is it ok to turn off printer often?

Hi @Pacpam
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
Turning off your HP ENVY 6065e All-in-One Printer frequently should not harm the printer, but there are a few considerations to keep in mind regarding power usage and ink consumption.
1. Turning Off the Printer:
It is perfectly safe to turn off your printer when it's not in use. Printers, like most electronics, are designed to be powered on and off without causing damage. However, if you frequently turn the printer on and off, it may slightly impact the following:
- Ink Usage:
- Ink Cartridges: Some inkjet printers perform a cleaning cycle when powered on, which can use a small amount of ink to ensure the printhead stays in good condition. This is more of a concern if you leave the printer off for extended periods, as the printhead may dry out, potentially leading to print quality issues.
- Solution: If you use the printer regularly, there’s no harm in turning it off, but if you’re not going to print for a long period, it’s fine to leave it off to save energy. For shorter periods of inactivity, leaving it on standby may be more efficient.
- Power Consumption:
- Printers use a small amount of power in standby mode, but it’s negligible compared to when they're actively printing. If you’re concerned about power consumption, turning the printer off when it’s not in use is an easy way to save energy.
2. Turning Off the Lights:
If you specifically want to turn off the lights or disable the display screen when the printer is idle, there isn’t an option to completely turn off the lights from the printer settings. However, you can:
Use the Printer’s Sleep Mode:
Many printers, including the HP ENVY 6065e, have an automatic sleep mode that reduces power consumption and dims the lights when the printer is idle for a while. You can check if this is enabled in the printer’s settings.
- Go to the printer's Settings Menu.
- Look for Power Settings or Sleep Mode and make sure it’s activated.
Use the HP Smart App:
You can also check settings from the HP Smart App on your phone or PC to see if there are any options for controlling the display or power-saving features.
3. Printer Restarting After Turning Off:
You don't need to worry about restarting the printer causing damage or excessive ink usage. As long as you’re not doing it excessively in a short period, the printer is designed to handle power cycles.
Key Takeaways:
- It's safe to turn the printer off when not in use.
- The printer uses a small amount of ink during its startup cleaning cycle, but this is generally not a concern if you print regularly.
- If you're concerned about power usage or light display, enable Sleep Mode on the printer to reduce energy consumption and turn off lights when idle.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
