HP Envy 7855
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I just got my new HP Envy 7855, I went to 123.hp.com to do the setup.....but I already ran into problem and I registered my self to the forum...so I am new to this forum.

1. The HP Envy 7855 photo tray doesn't allow paper size bigger than 5 x 7, so I have to load the photo paper to the main tray. I change the setting on the printer panel to "Main Tray - Photo paper".

2. I updated the firmware via setting in the printer as well but it says, it's up to date.

3. I selected 2 photos from my laptop to print to that photo paper in the main tray, the app in my laptop it keeps saying "out of photo paper".

Issue 1: Apparently the app doesn't recognize there is a piece of photo paper loaded in the main tray with setting in the printer as such.

Issue 2 : I searched forum here to see if it's just me but found "Printing 8X10 Photo on Letter-Size Photo Paper" posted but never got answered or resolved.

Hi @RYE1015

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the  "How to print photos" issue.

What is the type of photo paper you're using?

What is the weight of the photo paper?

While you respond to that, try the below suggestions-

  • Pull out the main paper tray, and then slide the paper-width guides outward.
  • Load a stack of photo paper or cards print side down until it stops at the back of the tray.
  • Slide the paper-width guides in until they lightly rest against the edges of the paper.

Refer to the document to change the paper size and type on your computer-Print Driver Settings Guide and How to print photos

To know if the paper type is supported by the printer or not, check  printer specifications

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

See my answers to your questions in RED:

What is the type of photo paper you're using? Kodak Premium Picture Paper, High Gloss.

What is the weight of the photo paper? Per Kodak package, 61 lb. 230 g/m2

While you respond to that, try the below suggestions-

  • Pull out the main paper tray, and then slide the paper-width guides outward. Main is only up to letter size, not much to  slide outward.
  • Load a stack of photo paper or cards print side down until it stops at the back of the tray. Done
  • Slide the paper-width guides in until they lightly rest against the edges of the paper. Done

I think it's more the "HP Smart" app issue than anything else. It keeps saying out of photo paper and asks to load photo paper.

I skipped "HP Smart" (or not so smart), directly selected the pictures from my folder and right click to print. They were printed.

The app not only doesn't work on my HP Elite laptop but also doesn't work well on our Samsung phones A10e and S10. It keeps saying "can't connect to the printer" but then I used Samsung Print app to connect to this wireless HP Envy 7855 printer, photos are printed.

try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

if this does not help, uninstall and re-install the HP Smart app and try.
