My HP DeskJet 4100 series seems to be having an issue with the HP Smart app.
I am attempting to set up a purchase for new ink supplies, however there seems to be an issue when trying to set up.
my printer sometimes seems to be “unavailable” in the associated app on random times but typically I can reset the printer and it works. But with this particular situation, it says I need to finish set up with the printer and when I select to continue, a screen populates on my phone stating “getting information” but it does not get past that screen, all the lights on the printer begin to flash so I know it’s connected to the same network. But 10 minutes will go by and the “getting information” screen will not continue to anything else.
any suggestions?

Hi @Jtab805408,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue with the HP Smart app and your DeskJet 4100 series printer.
Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the problem:
Check Network Connection:
- Make sure both your phone and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, network issues can cause connectivity problems.
- Restart your router to refresh the network connection.
Update HP Smart App:
- Ensure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your phone. Check the app store for any available updates.
Restart Devices:
- Power off your printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on.
- Restart your phone to ensure it’s not an issue with the device you’re using to set up the printer.
Reset Printer Network Settings:
- On your printer, navigate to the network settings menu and select the option to restore network settings to their default. Then, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
Reinstall HP Smart App:
- Uninstall the HP Smart app from your phone and then reinstall it. This can sometimes resolve issues related to app performance.
Check Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues with the HP Smart app. You can usually check for updates through the printer's settings menu.
Clear App Cache (if using Android):
- If you’re using an Android device, you can try clearing the cache of the HP Smart app by going to Settings > Apps > HP Smart > Storage > Clear Cache.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP Print and Scan Doctor
- If you have a computer available, download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. It can diagnose and fix many common printer problems.
