I recently got a new galaxy S25+ phone. I cannot get my printer to be recognized on this phone. All other devices in our home can connect and pri t, even my husband's S20FE phone. My old phone like his had no problems printing. I have tried all the suggestions on hp pages. None work. I've tried wifi and direct connections. They MIGHT print randomly for 2 seconds if I catch the printer available and press the print button quickly but not always. Printer appears ready to print on hp app but does not appear available to choose when I attempt to send a print job. I try "adding printer"...that doesn't work. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the hp apps. No results are better.

Hi @Turtlemamma,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for the detailed explanation—this sounds frustrating, especially since your other devices connect just fine.
Here’s a focused plan to help resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 not being recognized by your Samsung Galaxy S25+:
Step-by-Step Fix for Mobile Printing Issues:
1. Ensure HP Smart App Permissions Are Enabled
- Go to Settings > Apps > HP Smart > Permissions.
- Ensure Nearby Devices, Location, Network, and Storage permissions are all enabled.
- Also, enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your phone.
2. Reset Wi-Fi Setup Mode on the Printer
- On the printer’s touchscreen:
- Go to Wireless Settings > Restore Network Settings.
- This puts the printer back into Wi-Fi setup mode for 2 hours.
3. Reinstall the HP Smart App
- Uninstall the HP Smart app from your Galaxy S25+.
- Reboot your phone.
- Reinstall the app from the Google Play Store: HP printer setup (HP Smart app) | HP® Support.
4. Add the Printer Again
- Open HP Smart and tap “+” to add a printer.
- If it doesn’t appear:
- Tap “Set up a new printer”.
- Follow the prompts to connect via Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct.
5. Try Wi-Fi Direct (Alternative Method)
- On the printer, enable Wi-Fi Direct:
- Go to Wireless > Wi-Fi Direct > Turn On.
- On your phone:
- Go to Wi-Fi settings and connect to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network (e.g., DIRECT-HP-8740).
- The password is usually printed on a label or shown on the printer screen.
- Then try printing from HP Smart or any app with a print option.

Tried the items in your guidance that I had not tried. No luck. However a friend (IT guy)recommended i try a 3rd party app SMART PRINT. It worked on first try. YAY!
One part of your instructions i did not find in app permissions: Storage permission. That was not an option in the app but all the other options I had already turned on.
Thanks for your assistance. It did confirm I did know what I was doing when trying to get it to work. I worked in IT many years ago, but lots of changes in IT since I did. I started in a university when PCs where just arriving in 1985. Apple II's. PC's and first Macintoshes. I was a training coordinator so had to learn and teach all the skills users needed.
You are appreciated even though your steps didn't work for me.
THANKS AGAIN!!

Hi @Turtlemamma,
Thank you so much for the kind and thoughtful message — and YAY indeed! 🎉 I'm so glad something finally worked for you, even if it ended up being the SMART PRINT app and not the HP-approved route. Whatever gets the job done!
And you're right — IT has changed a lot since those days, but your instincts and approach still hold up. The tools may have evolved, but the mindset stays golden.
Thanks again for your warm message and the update. Glad it’s all working now — and if anything else pops up down the line, I’ll be here.
Wishing you smooth printing and even smoother tech days ahead! 😊🖨️✨
Take care, and have an amazing day!
