@dave4731, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9012e  printer being stuck in verifying mode. Try the following steps to resolve the issue:

Perform a Power Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  2. Wait for at least 2–3 minutes to allow the internal memory to reset.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  4. Plug the power cord directly into the wall outlet (not a surge protector) and reconnect it to the printer.
  5. Turn the printer back on and check if it passes the validation process.

Remove and Reinsert the Ink Cartridges

  1. With the printer turned on, open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove all ink cartridges and close the door.
  3. Wait for 30 seconds, then reopen the door and firmly reinsert the cartridges.
  4. Close the door and see if the printer resumes normal operation.

Use the HP Smart App – Diagnose & Fix Tool
If you haven’t already:

  • Download the HP Smart app on your PC or Mac.
  • Open the app, go to your printer, and select “Diagnose & Fix”.
  • Let it run and follow any instructions it provides.

Check for Firmware Updates
If the printer is accessible via the HP Smart app or web interface:

  • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
  • Install any available firmware updates.

Reinstall the Printer on Your Network

  • Remove the printer from your HP Smart app and your device’s printer list.
  • Reset the network settings on the printer (usually under Settings > Network > Restore Network Defaults).
  • Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi and re-add it to the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
