Hp Envy 4527
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Hi,

I have an Hp Envy 4527, which is connected via my WiFi network to my Mac running OS 10.14 Mojave. Sometimes my Mac loses the connection to the printer, even though the printer is switched on and is on the same WiFi network.

I've discovered that switching off my WifFi extender fixes the problem. I have a Virgin Home Hub, with 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channels, which is connected by PowerLine to a Netgear WiFi extender. The Netgear WiFi extender transmits on the same SSID as the Hub, to create a seamless WiFi network. So my guess is my Mac is connecting to one (let's say the Hub) and the printer is connecting to the other (let's say the Extender). It's the same network controlled by a single router, so I do not understand why the Mac can't see the printer, even if they are connecting via different devices.

The WiFi Extender is very useful because it improves the connectivity in my house. I do not want to switch it off. How can I get my Hp printer to work with the extended wifi network?

@Milo19,

(Note: The Printer that you have is compatible only with the 2.4GHz network)

Wireless printers sometimes get confused between the Router & the Extender since both have the same SSID.

Let's try these recommendations:

  • Assign different channels for the Main router and the extender (For example 1 and 6, 1 and 11, or 6 and 11) for the 2.4G band.
  • Try to keep the printer closer to the access point

Let me know if this helps.
