When I start up the printer, I see on the touchscreen a series of white grid lines on a black background. a progress bar is churning away at the bottom of the touchscreen. Nothing else happens. Any ideas? I wanted to attach a .jpg but couldn't find a way to do it.
Update: After a few minutes the touchscreen turns all white...permanently.
Here's a video of what happens (most times):

It might be an issue with firmware, what revision are you running? There is an issue with the one revision of firmware for the monochrome m428 and I am wondering if this is the same issue? Solution is to downgrade to an older firmware.

Glad you mentioned this. I’m pretty sure that you’re correct about the firmware issue. Before the printer basically “died”, I was getting the message that the toner cartridges were not communicating with the printer, a message usually attributed to using non-hp cartridges. THEY ARE THE HP CARTRIDGES THAT CAME WITH THE PRINTER!!! I have tried to obtain an older firmware version but have had no success. The really frustrating thing is that I purchased the printer in 2020 and with all the problems I’ve been able to print a grand total of 103 pages!

I should have an older firmware available but I am tied up today and likely cannot make it available until Friday.
