@Mbuckner2025, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When all the lights are blinking, it typically indicates a critical error or hardware issue. Here are the steps you can follow to troubleshoot this:
Power Reset (Hard Reset)
This helps clear any residual charge or temporary error:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for 2–3 minutes.
- Press and hold the power button on the printer for 30 seconds.
- Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer and turn it on.
Check if the lights stop blinking.
Check for Error Codes
If the printer shows a letter “E” followed by a number on the display, it’s an error code. Refer to the HP Smart Tank blinking lights guide to decode the error.
Update Firmware
Outdated firmware can cause system errors:
- Visit the HP Software and Drivers page.
- Enter your printer model (HP Smart Tank 5000).
- Download and install the latest firmware.
Check Printheads and Ink
- Open the printer and inspect the printhead icons.
- A blinking left icon = color printhead issue.
- A blinking right icon = black printhead issue.
- Remove and reseat the printheads if needed.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
