HP Smart Tank 6001 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 11

Finally set up my 6001 printer.
I set it up as per instructions, calibrated it, and updated it.
Now I have white power light and blue wifi light on solid. Plus I can see a white flashing light under the scan lid. I assume it’s the scanner wand.
I’ve pulled power cord for 5 min and reconnected. No change. Any ideas or is this defective right out of the box?

Hi @RuthlessMindset ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the blinking light from the scanner wand typically indicates that the scanner mechanism is either initializing, stuck, or encountering an error. Here are steps to troubleshoot and determine if the HP Smart Tank 6001 All-in-One Printer's scanner is defective:

1. Verify Scanner Functionality in HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart App on your computer.
  • Try scanning a document using the app.
  • Check if the scanner moves or if an error message appears.

2. Inspect the Scanner Bed

  • Open the scanner lid and check for any obstructions, dirt, or protective film that might be stuck under the scanner glass.
  • Ensure the scanner bed is clean and free of debris.

3. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 10 minutes to allow the printer's internal memory to clear.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

4. Run Printer Diagnostics HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from HP's website.
  • Run the tool on your Windows 11 computer to diagnose and fix scanner-related issues.

5. Update Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up-to-date. Outdated firmware can cause glitches in new devices.
  • Check for firmware updates in the HP Smart App or on the HP Support website.

6. Reset to Factory Settings

  • Reset the printer to its factory default settings:
    • On the Printer Control Panel: Navigate to Settings → Printer Maintenance → Restore → Factory Reset.

7. Test Scanner Movement

  • With the scanner lid open, initiate a scan. Observe if the scanner wand moves or if it remains stationary while blinking.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
