This is mindboggling. So my HP Officejet Pro 276dw printer was working just fine, the black ink cartridge was low, so I replaced it with a new ink cartridge. But the thing is, the new ink cartridge is one I sold on ebay and the buyer returned it to me saying it gave him an error message "“There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persist, contact HP.”

So I tried the black ink cartridge from the returned 950 xl 951 pack, and then sure enough, now my printer has the same error message. I've turned off, pulled the plug, even took the printer head out and cleaned it, still nothing.

I even tried 2 other black ink cartridges and still the error message now.

All 3 new black ink cartridges cannot be bad. It seems like the first bad ink cartridge that another person already tried and returned to me, then screwed up my printer, just like he said it blocked his printer from working even when he powered down his printer and tried forever before giving up and returning the ink to me. my 2 other new inks from hp also keep the same error message now.

How do I fix this situation?????

UPDATE ALL I REALLY NEED AT THIS POINT IS HOW TO DO A FACTORY RESET WHEN I CAN'T GET TO THE HOMEPAGE ANYMORE BECAUSE OF THE INFO I PUT IN MY REPLY TO THIS POST!!!! WHAT A HORRIBLE BUNCH OF BS THIS IS!!!!

To make matters worse, I can't even do a factory reset for some reason it says

"The feature has been locked by the person who set up the printer."

which makes no sense since i have owned the printer since day 1 and did no such lock.

how is the lock removed.

What a joke. HP sold me defective ink, it gave 1 person the error message, then I tried it on my printer, and now its giving me the error message and I can't get past it even when i try different cartridges. all HP genuine ink.

SOMEONE TROUBLESHOOT PLEASE

UPDATE.... found a way to remove the lock. PRESSED THE UNLIT BACK ARROW 3 TIMES, ENTERED Support Menu, DID A Semi-Full reset..This was supposedly going to remove THE LOCK SO I COULD THEN DO FACTORY RESET, BUT CANT GET THERE, BECAUSE now that the printer is initializing setup again, IT MAKES ME PUT CARTRIDGES BACK IN NOW ON THIS PARTIAL RESET, AND JUST GIVES THE ORIGINAL ERROR MESSAGE NOW  "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persist, contact HP" AND CAN'T GET OUT OF INITIALIZING SET UP TO GET TO HOMEPAGE TO GO TO MAIN SETTINGS TO DO FACTORY RESET WHICH MAYBE WOULD HAVE PROVIDED THE ONLY SOLUTION. At least when I was not in this intializing setup, I could get to homepage without ink installed. Now it forces me to put ink in to do the setup, and then it just gives the error message when I put any ink cartridge in. ALL BECAUSE 1 BLACK INK CARTRIDGE WAS DEFECTIVE FROM HP!!!!! NOW I CAN'T EVEN USE MY PRINTER!!!!

FYI, BY TAKING OUT THE ENTIRE PRINTERHEAD, I WAS THEN ABLE TO GET TO THE HOME SCREEN AND DO A FACTORY RESET.

IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE ERROR MESSAGE WHEN THE PRINTERHEAD AND INK CARTRIDGES WERE PUT BACK IN.
