I also have an OfficeJet Pro 6978 and am having the same problem as Canuck63. The pirinter goes offline during the day and has to be shut down and restarted in order to print. Been having the problem ever since a major Windows 10 update in early Feb. Need a resolution.

Good News!!! Clicking on "Manual IP" and then clicking on "Suggest a manual IP address" solved the problem. My IP address was changed slightly and I did not have to go to "Manual DNS Server" nor change the Manual Preferred Type nor the Manual Alternate Type. Those remained unchanged. Printer has not gone offline all day. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Disabling Ipv6 and Assigning a static IP address to the printer may resolve this issue. Let us try these steps:
Step 1: Assign a Static IP
• Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
• Type the IP address on your web browser(Ex:Google chrome) to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
• Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
• Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
• Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
• Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)
Step 2: Reboot the printer.
Let me know how this goes.

I just noticed that my IP address has changed from 10.0.0.13 to 10.0.0.199 and the "Manual DNS Server" button is still not working. With the IP address having been changed, how "screwed up" is my printer and or computer now? Need help please.
