Had a wifi connection to the printer at home. We moved. Now I can print through the word program but not through GMail. Using USB cable, not WiFI, not available. The error messsage is, invalid connection. I have uninstalled the printer, used HP print doctor, out of options. Must be something simple.

I suspect the problem may be with your browser. Are you looking at Gmail in Chrome, or IE, or a different browser? Has the browser been updated recently?

Hi there,
Can you tell me where that 'invalid connection' error displays? Is it after you select the Print option from the dropdown menu in the right hand corner of the Gmail window? Is your printer listed next to the Destination menu? If not, click Change to get it listed.
If you were using Google Cloud Print previously, you might not be able to use that now that you are on a USB connection. Go to Connecting and Using Google Cloud Print for more info.
Let me know if this helped.

The error message appears after selecting print, bottom right hand of box.
I have 2 printers listed.
One has a gmail address, which of course will not work without wifi.
The other has an address that has local appended.
The software installation went smoothly and a test page printed, thus the lap top and printer communicate but not when google/gmail are involved.
I will try the cloud next.
Thanks for your help.

As noted in reply to another helper, I am embarrassed to report that I needed to select the printer on the previous print screen. It has become set on e print...I guess necessary for wifi, months ago.....
Why is this so insane, all the time? I hooked up the USB cable, I would think that would maybe be a signal somewhere, somehow to the system, "Oh, let's route the print through the cable. " Can't wait for AI!
Thank you for trying to help.
