Whenever I try to copy a document, the paper size shows to be an envelope. I cannot get it to reset. Have tried off/on, delete/reinstall...all I know to do. Any suggestions?  This is a fairly new printer.

Open the tray, remove the paper you do not want,

Load the paper you want to use,

If the printer control panel asks whether to use or Modify, select Modify and change the paper size.

If the printer control panel does not provide this feature, and the printer is on the network, use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to modify the paper preferences.

The following examples show two ways this might be done - one or the other might be the same or similar to your EWS setup.

Example - Officejet Pro 8740

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management

Example - Officejet Pro 8630

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Settings > Preferences > Paper Settings

I have actually done those things. My issue is only when I am trying to use the copy function. The printer by itself works fine with print jobs from the computer; it's just the copy function that keeps telling me I have the wrong paper. Any additional ideas? I appreciate your help.

The Officejet Pro 8710 is the little brother of the 8700 series - the printer is not like the others in that same group.

The User Guide explains how to load paper.  There is no mention of resetting the Paper Size / Type on the printer control panel after you close the printer tray.  Nonetheless, if the printer control panel asks that you to either "OK" or "Modify" the paper settings, please do so.

Your EWS setup to adjust the Copy Defaults is perhaps not split between functions (tray/paper) as shown in the earlier example.
