HP Envy 5546
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I cannot print in colour on my HP Envy.  I have tried changing settings on photos and documents but the printer keeps printing out in monochrome.

I have tried to print test page, again all monochrome. I undertook a printer quality diagnostic and that came out in colour as expected.

I have checked in printer settings and cannot see any option to change printer preferences between monochrome and colour.

Any ideas?

Please try making a color COPY and let me know if that works. If you are able to make a Color Copy then try the following steps.

Uninstall the Printer Driver from your computer.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers

Restart the Printer and computer, then download the Full Feature Software and the Firmware from Here

Keep me posted.

Thanks.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I understand that you are unable to print in Color.

I could help.

Do you have an adequate amount of ink left in all the cartridges?

Please follow these instructions to check the Print Settings.

- In the program you are trying to print from, click File, then click Print.

- The Print window opens.

- Click the button that opens the Properties dialog box. Depending on the software program you are using, the button might be titled Printer Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preference

- Check the Printer Features section of the Advanced Properties menu for the Print in the Grayscale setting.

- If you are trying to print in color, make sure the Print in Grayscale setting from the drop-down menu is Off.

If the settings are fine, try cleaning the ink cartridges.

  1. Make sure you have loaded plain white U.S. letter or A4-sized paper into the paper tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, and then touch Setup.

    The Setup menu displays.

  3. Touch Tools, and then touch Clean Cartridges.

The printer cleans the ink cartridges, then prints a Print Quality Diagnostic report.

  4. Examine the Print Quality Diagnostic report.

  5. If the print quality is not acceptable, touch Yes to continue the next level of cleaning. Repeat these steps for the third cleaning stage, if necessary.

You can follow the instructions in this Link: HP ENVY 5540, DeskJet 5570 Printers - Printer Prints Blank Page or Does Not Print Black, Color Ink

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you. 🙂

Thanks Krazytoad.

When I go to the program I am trying to print the picture is defaulting to greyscale.  I then change this to colour and print and it still prints in B+W.  This is happening when I try to print photos.

The colour cartridge is half full.

I've undertaken the cleaning you suggested and this does print out in colour.  However when I try to print a test page this is all in black and white.

Any more suggestions?
