Dear Friends,

I have been through a very frustrating situation. I cannot print with HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 1515 All-in-One printer using USB cable. Can copy and scan but cannot print. Tried every thing on the hp support pages no success. I tried hP forum and got some clue from a member of the forum who was not by any chance from HP Team.

I can understand the pain one goes through. oh...my...God!! For me it was 8 to 10 hours for 3 days non-stop. There is no was out but to try and try,  because I already know that the retailer will not take back the **bleep** HP machine and the HP technical support person on the telephone gives up saying that it is an issue with the PC and not with the HP printer. I **bleep** know it is the HP printer software drivers that is pathethic!! It should be user friendly so that I can first print, copy and scan...the rest of the features I will appreciate  if the primary functions work well at the first place.

I some how got a workaround...and it is printing!! Thank god!!

But I still want the HP driver software to work the way it should and not make it work with a workaround.

Yeah!! but I can surely share is a work-around that will help to print good documents and good photos...Its a work around but I still need a total resolution from HP!!! this is not a computer issue ...its your software driver issue HP!!! ARE You listening HP!

The work around:

Use the universal HP Deskjet PCL3 class driver instead of HP Deskjet 1510 series, the printer works on Windows 8 and Win 7 aswell.

Download HP Deskjet 460 Printer Series PCL3

From the link : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&softwareitem=bi-40620-1

To download the driver click on the link that reads:

File name: DJ460_WinXP64_EN.exe

Then save it in C: Drive and note down the location.

If you already installed the HP 1510 driver then can try this:

- Control panel

- View devices and printers

- right click on "HP Deskjet 1510" icon and select Printer properties

- go to "Advanced" tab

- use the "New Driver" button

- In the left window select HP

- Click on Have disk

Click on Browse and go to the location where you saved the driver for HP Deskjet 460 Printer Series PCL3 and click open.

Follow the instructions and then try to print.

Let me know if it works for you too..I will be glad if it works for you.

In the meantime, I believe that HP should find a resolution to this issue….and not leave the customers on their own…and Dear friends if you have a resolution please let me know.. This world is a small family and we must help each other and love each other.

Hi IndianGuru,

I see by your post that you aren't able to print, but you can copy and scan.
I can help you with this issue, but I will need a little more detail to assist you better.

Are you connecting the USB cable directly to the computer that you are trying to print from at the time?

The USB should not be longer than 6 feet long and should be directly connected to a USB port on your PC.

(not through any docking station, USB hub)

Is the USB cable and port on the computer 2.0 or 3.0?

Are the computers, Laptops or Desktops?

If you haven't already, download, save and run the Full Feature Software and Drivers.

HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 1515 All-in-One Printer Drivers.

I have a couple of things that you may try to resolve this issue.

Change the new driver back to old driver to see if it works now.

Go back into devices and printers.

Then go into the properties for the HP Deskjet PCL3 class driver.

Click on the Advanced tab and select new driver.

Select have disk and search to the original driver to put it back in to see if it will now run.

(make sure the port is set to USB and not LPT)

If you still can't print, then run the add printer wizard, select the USB for the port to use and try printing again.

If it fails to print then download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?

It will check the following:

Print Spooler.
Driver Check.
Device Manager.
Device Online.
Print Queue.
Port Match.
Device Conflicts.
Test Print.

If you are still having issues then disable all the start up programs and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software.

How to use MSCONFIG . Click on the start up tab and click disable all.

Test the printer.

If the issue persists, then set the driver to print directly to the printer. Go to devices and printers, right click the printer, left click printer properties, click on the advanced tab, select print directly to the printer, apply and OK.

Try printing again.

Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.

Have a nice day!
Thank You.

Hi,

I have encountered the same problem. I can scan and copy but I can't print even the test print page. I am connecting the USB cable of the printer directly to my HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop with windows vista operating system. The USB that I am using is the one that comes along with the printer when I bought it.  I have tried the HP print and scan doctor and everything's OK. I have reformat my laptop and update the software. However, still I can't print.

Hi Nlyenil,

I understand you are having the same issue, you can copy and scan but you can't print. I can help you out today.

Try and print a hardware self test on the printer to find out if it is a hardware or software issue.

Touch and hold the Start Copy Black button () and the Start Copy Color button () at the same time.

Did the self test page print?

I have provided a document with some steps to try to see if that will resolve the issue. You can skip the Print and Scan Doctor, since you already ran it. But I would like to know if you were able to print the test page, when you previously ran the Print and Scan Doctor.

Print Jobs from Your HP Printer are Stuck in the Print Queue.

Try printing again.

If the issue persists, try another USB port on the Laptop, even another USB cable. Just to rule that out.

Some ports on a Laptop have more power then others, which can affect printing. Even though you can scan through the USB connection.

Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet and the USB cable is connected directly to the computer.

The USB cable shouldn't be longer then 6 feet.

Is the cable a 2.0 or 3.0 cable?

Is the USB port on the computer 2.0 or 3.0?

Check the power management if you are using a Laptop to see if that is causing the issue.

Go into the device manager, under universal serial bus controllers, for each USB root hub, right click and left click on properties, for power management remove the check mark for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". It allows the computer to limit or turn off power for this device.

How do I get into Windows Device Manager?

What was the port assigned to the printer?

Let me know how you make out.

Have a nice day!
Thank You.

Finally my issue is fixed!

Issue was with the cheap USB cable which Eureka ( Store)- Kuwait sells with the HP printer. They gave me a new one....and sadly that didnt work as well!

I bought a good quality USB cable and this fixed the driver on all my laptops! Eureka still dosent admit the cheap USB cable issue which they bundle with the printer...all the customers will have the same issue....bad customer service!

Hope it helps someone!

Thank you! You saved my day with the Deskjet460 system download! My DJ1515 is finally printing!

Any idea on how long this 'detour' is going to work without the next system error?

It's ridiculous that a brand new product has this problem and is still on the market.

I had a problem with my Hp deskjet  1515 not printing.  The printer went through the printing function without showing the print --- cartridges were full of ink. The ink out let was contaminated with dry ink - this is the first time I have had the problem - never with Lexmark neither Epsom.  I managed to clear the blockage by carefully soaking the ink outlet in warm water – drying it then shaking to remove any water that may be inside the outlet – I repeated this a few times – preplaced the cartridges and printed – only the top half of the printed word showed – meaning the bottom half of outlet was still blocked. I repeated the above and retried.  Printing is now OK.
