What the Symbols Mean

  • Blinking “!”: This is a general warning. It often appears when the printer needs attention—such as paper not loaded, a jam, or a tray selection issue.
  • Two folder-like icons with three dots: These represent the paper trays or paper sources. The three dots suggest the printer is waiting for paper or for you to confirm a paper setting.

 

Steps to Resolve the Issue

Check Paper Loading

  • Open the input tray and make sure paper is loaded correctly.
  • Align the paper guides snugly against the stack.
  • Use clean, flat paper—not curled or damp.

 

Confirm Paper Settings on the Printer Panel

  • If prompted, select the paper size and type using the control panel.
  • Use the arrow buttons to choose the correct settings, then press OK.

 

Clear Any Pending Jobs

  • On the printer panel, press the Cancel button to clear any stuck print jobs.
  • This may reset the warning and allow the printer to recheck the paper.

 

Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
  • This refreshes the system and may clear the blinking alert.

 

Check for Firmware Updates

  • On your Windows 11 PC, open the HP App.
  • Select your printer, go to Settings > Advanced Settings > Firmware Update.
  • Install any available updates to ensure smooth operation.

 

Once paper is loaded correctly and settings are confirmed, the blinking “!” should stop and the printer should resume normal operation. If the icons persist, restarting and checking the HP App for any alerts can help clarify what the printer needs.
